Nourishing Ojas – Date and Almond Shake

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian mode of healing and ojas refers to the immune system. Both dates and almonds help to restore your ojas leaving you feeling balanced and grounded. This Date and Almond Shake is a tasty way to enhance your stamina and vitality and help restore your energy by providing your body with natural sugars and healthy fats.

While we normally think of a frosty beverage when we hear the word “shake,” this beverage is meant to be served warm. It’s smooth and savory  yet sweet flavor is the perfect wake-me-up or pick-me-up. There isn’t a healthier addiction!

Ingredients:

6 Medjool Dates soaked on 1 cup water
20 Almonds soaked in 1 cup water
¼ teaspoon ground Ginger
¼ teaspoon of Cardamom
Pinch of Cinnamon or Nutmeg
Pinch of Saffron (optional)
2 cups milk of your choice (whole milk, almond milk, coconut milk)
½ cup hot water, plus more if needed

Directions:

Pre-soak the almonds and dates in separate containers overnight for min 2hrs. Drain the almonds and peel them by pinching them and popping the nut out of the skin (if the skins do not come off easily, try submerging the soaked almonds in very hot water before you peel them). Bring the milk to a boil. While the milk is heating, place the peeled almonds, the soaked dates with the water from the dates in a blender. When the milk is heated up, add it to the blender along with the hot water. Blend for 2–3 minutes or until smooth and frothy. Best to drink this warm and nourishing Date and Almond Shake in the morning.
